Memphis Light, Gas, & Water (MLGW) Summer Experience
This summer, 58 Memphis-Shelby County Schools high school students didn’t just take a break—they took a bold step toward their future. Through the Memphis Light, Gas & Water (MLGW) Summer Experience, these students earned certificates in high-demand fields including utility linework, automotive mechanics, and, for the first time, customer service.
Now in its third year, the MLGW Summer Experience is a dynamic partnership with Southwest Tennessee Community College that transforms summer break into a launchpad for real careers. Students received hands-on training, mentorship, and industry insight—plus a paycheck—while gaining skills that energize both their futures and our community.
This program is more than a boot camp. It’s a workforce pipeline that connects young talent to opportunity, strengthens Memphis’ economic future, and lights the way for the next generation of essential workers.
